Instagram post generators, compared on what Instagram actually needs

Updated

The best Instagram post generator for a business is one that makes the post at the right feed size, writes the caption, and publishes it to your Business or Creator account. Vidpop does all three from an iPhone. Many generators sold for Instagram are general design tools with an Instagram template, so you still resize, write and post by hand. This page compares five of them on the things Instagram cares about: the 1080x1350 feed size, carousel or single image, the caption, and whether the tool can post for you.

The short answer

  • 1. Vidpop. Makes Instagram carousels and image posts at 1080x1350 with a caption, and posts them to your Business or Creator account. Autopilot plans three carousels a week; Create with AI makes one post when you ask. iPhone app.
  • 2. Predis.ai. Makes images, carousels and short videos from a prompt, with a caption generator and scheduling on every plan. Each image or carousel slide costs 15 credits. Web, iPhone and Android.
  • 3. Contentdrips. A web tool that turns a topic or a link into a carousel or graphic from a template, with an Instagram Post Generator. Its pricing page lists Instagram publishing on the Pro plan.
  • 4. Canva. The most templates and the most control over the design. You write every line yourself, and scheduling social content is not on the free plan.
  • 5. Meta Business Suite. Meta's free tool for scheduling posts to Instagram and Facebook. It does not make the post, so pair it with a generator.

What an Instagram post needs before it goes out

A generic post generator gives you text or a square image. Instagram has its own rules, and a tool built for it should handle them for you.

  • The tall feed size, 1080x1350. This 4:5 portrait size takes more of the screen in the feed than a square. Vidpop makes every image post and carousel at this size.
  • Carousel or single image. A single image works for an announcement or an offer. A carousel works when you have steps, tips or a story to tell. Instagram's help center says a carousel can hold up to 20 photos and videos.
  • A caption that matches the slides. The caption should add to the post, not repeat it. Add your own hashtags at the end if you use them.
  • A Business or Creator account. Instagram only lets outside tools publish to professional accounts. A personal account can't be connected. See how to switch.

How Vidpop makes an Instagram post

Vidpop starts by learning your business. You give it your website or App Store page, or answer six short questions and add a few photos. Every post it makes starts from that, so the topic fits what you sell.

There are two ways to get a post. Autopilot plans three carousels a week, each with 5 to 7 slides at 1080x1350 in one of eight formats, such as tips, myth vs fact, steps, FAQ and before-and-after. Create with AI makes one post when you ask: describe it and choose Caption, Image post or Carousel. Starter and Pro include 5 Create with AI posts a week.

Post for Me then publishes to your Instagram Business or Creator account, right away or on a schedule. The same post can go to your Facebook Page and LinkedIn company Page too. With "Ask me first" on, nothing goes out until you approve it, and you can edit the caption up to 15 minutes before it posts.

The limits: Vidpop is iPhone only, with no Android or web version, and it needs iOS 17 or later. Posts and captions are written in English for now. It makes carousels and image posts for the feed. For video, the Pro plan adds one UGC video ad a week, a vertical video up to 30 seconds. More on the Instagram page.

The other four

Predis.ai is the closest match. It makes images, carousels and videos from a prompt, writes captions and schedules posts to Instagram. Everything runs on credits: the Core plan has 1,300 a month, and an image or a carousel slide costs 15, so a 7-slide carousel uses 105.

Contentdrips is template-led. You enter a topic or paste a link, and its AI writes the slides and fills a template. Its pricing page lists a free plan with 50 AI credits, Starter at $15 a month billed monthly with LinkedIn publishing, and Pro at $26 a month billed monthly with LinkedIn, Instagram and TikTok. An AI carousel costs 10 credits.

Canva is a design tool, not a writer. The free plan has more than 1.6 million templates, and you type every slide. Canva's pricing page lists Pro at $144 a year for one person, and lists social content scheduling as a Pro feature.

Meta Business Suite is free and made by Meta. It schedules and publishes posts, stories and reels to Facebook and Instagram. You bring the finished image and caption.

How to choose

  1. 01Check your Instagram account type first. If it is personal, switch it to Business or Creator, or no tool can post for you.
  2. 02Decide who writes. If you want to type each slide, a template tool like Canva is enough. If you want the words written for you, pick a generator.
  3. 03Look at the size of what comes out. Feed posts should be 1080x1350; a square or a story size will need fixing.
  4. 04Count the real cost of a carousel. On credit-based tools, multiply the slide cost by the number of slides.
  5. 05Decide where you work. Vidpop is iPhone only. Predis.ai has web and phone apps. Contentdrips and Canva work in a browser.
  6. 06Try it for one week with approval on, so you see every post before Instagram does.

Frequently asked questions

What is an Instagram post generator?
A tool that makes an Instagram post for you, usually the image or carousel and the caption. Some only write text. Vidpop makes the design and the caption at 1080x1350 and can post it to your Instagram Business or Creator account.
What size should an Instagram post be?
1080x1350, the tall 4:5 portrait size, takes the most space in the feed. Vidpop makes every image post and carousel at that size. Keep every slide in a carousel the same size so nothing gets cropped.
Should I post a carousel or a single image?
Use a single image for one clear message, like an offer or a closing day. Use a carousel when you have several points, such as tips or steps. Vidpop's Create with AI lets you choose Image post or Carousel for each request.
Can an AI post generator publish to my personal Instagram?
No. Instagram only lets outside tools publish to Business or Creator accounts. Switching takes a few taps in the Instagram app, and you can switch back later.
Does Vidpop add hashtags?
Vidpop writes a caption for every post. If you use hashtags, edit the caption and add them before the post goes out. You can edit up to 15 minutes before a scheduled post.
Is there a free Instagram post generator?
Canva and Contentdrips have free plans, and Meta Business Suite schedules Instagram posts for free. Vidpop is paid, with a 3-day free trial on Starter, which is $8.99 a week or $29.99 a month on the US App Store.
Can Vidpop make Instagram videos?
Feed posts from Autopilot and Create with AI are carousels and image posts. On the Pro plan, you also get one UGC video ad a week, a vertical video up to 30 seconds with an AI presenter, which can be posted to Instagram.
