A Buffer alternative for people with nothing ready to schedule
Updated
Buffer is one of the best-known social media schedulers, and scheduling is what it does well: you write a post, attach an image, pick a time and it goes out. The catch for most small businesses is the step before that. A scheduler needs something to schedule. If your queue is empty on Monday because nobody had time to make the posts, a better scheduler won't fill it. Vidpop makes the posts first, then publishes them.
What is Buffer?
Buffer is a tool for scheduling and publishing social media posts, with web, iPhone and Android apps. It publishes to Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, Bluesky, Mastodon and Substack. Its AI Assistant helps you brainstorm ideas, rewrite content and adapt a post for each platform, and it has a Canva integration for design.
Buffer's pricing page, checked in September 2026, lists three plans. Free covers up to 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel. Essentials is $5 a month per channel, or $60 a year per channel, with unlimited scheduled posts. Team is $10 a month per channel, or $120 a year per channel, with unlimited team members.
Why people look for a Buffer alternative
- It posts what you make. Buffer schedules and publishes. The images, carousels and most of the words still come from you or another tool.
- Design happens somewhere else. Buffer points you to its Canva integration, which means a second app and a second job.
- No plan for the week. The AI Assistant helps you write when you ask. It doesn't decide what your business should post this week.
- Per-channel pricing adds up. Instagram, Facebook and TikTok on Essentials is three channels, so $15 a month before you have made a single post.
- The free plan is small. Ten scheduled posts per channel is a good trial, and a tight limit for a business posting every week.

What Vidpop does before anything is scheduled
Vidpop starts where a scheduler stops. You give it your website, your App Store page, or answers to six short questions with a few photos. It works out what you sell and who buys it.
Each week Autopilot plans three carousels and designs them, with 5 to 7 slides at 1080x1350 in formats like tips, myth vs fact, steps, FAQ and before-and-after. Every one comes with a caption. Post for Me publishes them to Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn at the scheduled time, and can post video to TikTok.
You decide how much to check. With "Ask me first" on, nothing goes out until you approve it. You can edit captions, re-make a post, undo to the earlier version, and steer next week with a note, up to 15 minutes before a post goes out.
For posts outside the plan, Create with AI makes a caption, an image post or a carousel from a short description. Pro adds a weekly UGC video ad with an AI presenter.
Who Vidpop is for
Vidpop fits the owner whose problem is making posts, not timing them. You post to Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, you work from an iPhone, and you would like the week planned, designed and written before you look at it.
It is also a simpler bill. One Vidpop plan covers the planning, design, captions and posting for your connected accounts, instead of a scheduler priced per channel plus a design tool.
Know the limits before you move. Vidpop is iPhone only. It posts to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and TikTok, so accounts on other networks need another tool. Carousels are written in English for now.
Moving from Buffer to Vidpop
- 01Let the posts already in your Buffer queue go out, or pause them, so nothing posts twice.
- 02Install Vidpop on your iPhone and start the Starter free trial.
- 03Set up your business with your website, App Store link or the six questions.
- 04Connect Instagram (Business or Creator account), your Facebook Page and TikTok with Post for Me.
- 05Turn on "Ask me first" for the first week and review each carousel.
- 06Once the week looks right, turn Buffer's channels off for the accounts Vidpop now posts to.
Frequently asked questions
- Does Buffer create posts for you?
- Buffer's AI Assistant helps you brainstorm ideas, rewrite content and adapt posts for each platform, and it has a Canva integration for design. The post itself is still yours to make. Vidpop plans, designs and captions three carousels a week for you.
- How much does Buffer cost?
- In September 2026 Buffer's Essentials plan was $5 a month per channel and Team was $10 a month per channel. The free plan covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each. Vidpop Starter is $8.99 a week or $29.99 a month on the US App Store.
- Can Vidpop schedule posts like Buffer?
- Yes. Post for Me publishes to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and TikTok, right away or on a schedule. Autopilot posts its weekly carousels at the scheduled time on its own, or after you approve them.
