An Instagram caption generator that starts from your business

Updated

Most caption generators work the same way: you describe the photo, pick a tone and get ten options that could fit any account. The captions that work for a business say something only that business could say. Vidpop is an iPhone app that learns what you sell first, then writes a caption for every post it makes, and can write a caption on its own from a short description. This page covers how a good Instagram caption is built and how Vidpop writes one.

What makes an Instagram caption work

Instagram shows the first line or two of a caption before the "more" cut. That opening decides whether anyone reads the rest, so it carries most of the weight.

  • First line: the reason to keep reading. A question, a surprising fact or the problem the post solves. Not "Happy Monday!"
  • Middle: one useful point. The detail behind the photo, the tip, the story. Short lines read better on a phone than one block.
  • End: one next step. Save the post, send a message, tap the link in bio, book a table. Pick one.
  • Hashtags: a few relevant ones. Specific tags that describe the post beat a long list of broad ones.

Caption generators, compared by where the words come from

An AI caption generator is only as good as what it knows. The difference between tools is mostly the input.

How Vidpop writes captions

Vidpop starts by learning your business, from your website, your App Store page, or answers to six short questions and a few photos. Everything it writes after that is about what you sell and who buys it.

Every post gets a caption. Autopilot plans three carousels a week, and each comes with a caption written to match its slides. You can edit any caption before it goes out.

Captions on their own. In Create with AI, choose Caption, describe the post, and Vidpop writes it. Use it for a photo you took yourself, a product launch, or a post you want to publish today: say what is in the picture and what you want people to do.

Then it posts. Post for Me publishes to Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, right away or on a schedule, so the caption never has to be copied between apps.

Write better prompts for an AI caption generator

Whatever tool you use, the request shapes the caption. Give it the facts it can't guess.

  • Say what is in the photo. "Our new lemon tart, on the counter by the window."
  • Say who it is for. "Regulars who come in for coffee before work."
  • Give the one detail that matters. "Only on weekends, until it sells out."
  • Say what you want people to do. "Reply with the day they're coming in."
  • Say how long. "Two short lines and a question" gets you something closer to what you meant than "a caption".

Know the limits first

Vidpop is an iPhone app and needs iOS 17 or later. There is no Android app, no web version and no iPad-native app.

Captions and posts are written in English for now; Arabic is available for videos. Instagram must be a Business or Creator account for Vidpop to post to it.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an AI that writes Instagram captions?
Yes, many. Vidpop writes a caption for every post it makes, using what it has learned about your business, and can write a caption on its own from a short description in Create with AI.
How long should an Instagram caption be?
Long enough to make one point. The first line matters most, because Instagram cuts the caption off before "more". A hook, a few short lines and one call to action works for most business posts.
Can Vidpop post the caption to Instagram for me?
Yes. Post for Me publishes the post and its caption to Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, right away or on a schedule. Instagram needs a Business or Creator account.
Can I edit the captions Vidpop writes?
Yes. You can edit any caption, re-make the post, or undo to the previous version, up to 15 minutes before a scheduled post goes out.
Does Vidpop write captions in Arabic?
Not for posts yet. Captions for carousels and image posts are written in English. Videos, including their on-screen captions, can be in Arabic.
Is Vidpop's caption generator free?
Vidpop is free to download, and the Starter plan has a 3-day free trial. After that Starter is $8.99 a week or $29.99 a month on the US App Store.
