A Hootsuite alternative for owners who also have to make the posts

Updated

Hootsuite is built for social media teams: a shared calendar, a unified inbox, listening, analytics and approval workflows, priced per user. If you are one person running social for your own business, most of that is weight you pay for and don't use, and the part you do need, someone making the posts each week, is still your job. Vidpop is an iPhone app that makes the posts first and then publishes them.

What is Hootsuite?

Hootsuite is a social media management suite with a web dashboard and iPhone and Android apps. It publishes to Facebook Pages, Instagram, X, LinkedIn profiles and Pages, TikTok, Threads, Bluesky, Pinterest and YouTube. Its AI assistant, Wisdom, generates captions, post ideas and images, and its composer includes Canva and Adobe Express templates. Around publishing sit a shared inbox, social listening, analytics and team approvals.

Hootsuite's plans page, checked on 6 October 2026, lists Standard at $99 per user a month billed annually, for up to 10 social accounts. Professional is $199 per user a month with unlimited accounts. Advanced is $399 per user a month and adds content approvals and message routing. Enterprise is custom. Every paid plan has a 14-day free trial with no credit card. Monthly billing is also offered, at a higher per-user rate.

Why people look for a Hootsuite alternative

  • The price is set for teams. $99 a month per user, billed annually, is the entry point. For a single owner that is a large bill for a calendar and a composer.
  • It schedules what you make. Wisdom will draft a caption or an image when you ask, and the composer has templates. Deciding what to post this week, and building it, is still on you.
  • Most of the suite is for teams. Inbox routing, listening, competitor benchmarks and approval chains matter to a social team. A café owner rarely opens them.
  • More screens to learn. A dashboard built for many accounts and many users takes time to set up before the first post goes out.

What Vidpop does for one person

Vidpop starts by learning your business, from your website, your App Store page, or answers to six short questions and a few photos.

Each week Autopilot plans three carousels, designs each with 5 to 7 slides at 1080x1350, and writes a caption for every one. Formats rotate between tips, myth vs fact, steps, FAQ, before-and-after and three more, so the feed doesn't repeat itself. Post for Me publishes them to Instagram, Facebook and a LinkedIn company Page you manage at the scheduled time.

You decide how much to check. With "Ask me first" on, nothing goes out until you approve it. You can edit captions, re-make a post, undo to the earlier version, and leave a note to steer next week, up to 15 minutes before a post goes out.

Create with AI makes an extra caption, image post or carousel from a short description. Pro adds one UGC video ad a week with an AI presenter, which can go to TikTok.

Who Vidpop is for

Vidpop fits the owner whose problem is making posts, not managing a team's queue. You post to Instagram, Facebook or a LinkedIn Page, you work from your iPhone, and you want the week planned, designed and written before you look at it.

Know the limits before you move. Vidpop is iPhone only, with no web or Android version. It posts to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn company Pages and TikTok, and TikTok takes video only. Carousels are written in English for now. It has no shared inbox, listening or analytics.

  6. 06Once the week looks right, disconnect those accounts in Hootsuite before your next billing date.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Hootsuite cost?
On 6 October 2026 Hootsuite listed Standard at $99, Professional at $199 and Advanced at $399 per user a month, billed annually, with a 14-day free trial. Vidpop Starter is $8.99 a week or $29.99 a month on the US App Store.
Does Hootsuite create posts for you?
Its AI assistant, Wisdom, can generate captions, ideas and images when you ask, and the composer has Canva and Adobe Express templates. Vidpop's Autopilot plans, designs and captions three carousels a week without being asked.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Hootsuite?
For one person posting to Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, Vidpop Starter costs $29.99 a month and makes the posts as well as publishing them. It is an iPhone app and has no inbox or analytics.
Can Vidpop post to LinkedIn?
Yes, to a LinkedIn company Page you manage. It does not post to personal LinkedIn profiles, which Hootsuite does.
Does Vidpop have a social inbox or analytics?
No. Vidpop plans, makes and publishes posts. It has no shared inbox, social listening or reports, so a business that depends on those needs a separate tool for them.
Can I approve posts before Vidpop publishes them?
Yes. Turn on "Ask me first" and nothing goes out until you approve it. Your first week always waits for your approval.
